Residents of the Kushe-Makaranta community in the Kagarko Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State have rescued four members of the community from bandits operating in the area.

A community leader from the area, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the development to our reporter via telephone on Wednesday.

He said the incident happened on Monday after four villagers, who were returning from their farms around 5:47 pm, came under attack by armed bandits.

He explained that the bandits ambushed the victims at gunpoint and forced them into the forest.

According to him, upon receiving the information, the villagers quickly mobilized alongside some local hunters to pursue the bandits.

“It was upon receiving an information that the bandits had abducted four farmers returning from the farm that the villagers immediately mobilized themselves, including local hunters, who followed them immediately into the bush and rescued the victims from the hands of the bandits,” he said.

A local hunter, simply identified as Shehu Ahmadu, also confirmed the incident, adding that one of the hunters and a villager sustained bullet injuries during the rescue effort.

“Upon sighting the villagers and hunters, some of the bandits, wielding AK-47 rifles, started shooting sporadically in order to scare the villagers, which is when bullets hit and injured a hunter and one villager,” he stated.

Ahmadu said the two injured victims were taken to the hospital in Kagarko for treatment.

 He added that troops were later informed about the development and have since mobilized into the forest.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, is yet to comment on the development as of the time of filing this report.
