Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has charged members of the judicial committee of enquiry that will investigate the killings and destruction of properties during the nationwide protest against hunger and hardship to work diligently and not spare anyone found guilty.

The governor made the call shortly after he inaugurated the committee to investigate the event that led to the killings of innocent people, destruction of public and private properties as well as looting of properties by some suspected thugs.

Daily Trust reports that the the August nationwide peaceful protest was marred by violence after it was hijacked by thugs.

Speaking, governor Yusuf said, “Let me seize this opportunity to say that we have everything and confidence, we have the courage to do what is right not minding the consequences. I therefore on behalf of the government and the good people of the state appeal to you to discharge this responsibility diligently and with honesty as a service to your state and as a service to your nation.

“Things have to change, enemies of the state to perpetrate most of the crimes. Invite religious and traditional leaders, let them also give their own contributions, how do we bring back moral values in the minds of going people. There are so many people, so many young men that were arrested and even prosecuted. Visit them, find out from them what motivates them to go wild to steal.

“Don’t spare anyone found guilty, anyone who is found innocent, please let him go.”

The 14-man committee is to be headed by Retired Justice Lawan Wada Mahmoud who pledged to work diligently and on course to unravel the real narrative behind the unfortunate event as well bring perpetrators to book.
