A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who spoke to them, reports that in spite of the poor performances by clubs, the spectators still cheered the teams.

Dominique Danpete of Congo Brazzaville said that he enjoyed the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by Nigerian fans during their quarter-final match.

“The Nigerian fans supported us even though their home team lost its first quarter-final match,’’ he said.

Mubarak Muhammad of GSP Algeria said that he though his grasp of the English language was poor, he could feel the impact of the support from Nigerian fans.

El-Nasir, who plays for Es Sahel of Tunisia, said he would learn one of the songs sang by the fans before returning home.

Mr Samuel Ugo, a fan, told NAN that sports unified people from different parts of the world.

He said Nigerians were sports-loving people and would support teams that played well, irrespective of their religious or racial backgrounds.

NAN reports that the four teams representing Nigeria at the championship had been eliminated but the fans promised to continue to support the others till a winner emerges.

Meanwhile, the President of Algeria Handball Association, Aliout Pat, has described Nigeria as a great nation with great people.

Pat said he enjoyed the harmonious coexistence among Nigerians, especially sports fans who extended a warm hand of friendship to visiting teams. (NAN)
