She made this remark at the occasion of the grand finale of the visual arts competition last Wednesday at the Shehu Yar’adua Centre, Abuja.  The theme of this year’s National Competition she said, “is a pictorial reading and illustration of the subject matter through creativity that is imbibed in art. The entries are visual and historical documentation as through them generations to come will know the efforts and contributions made now.

Also speaking at the event, the acting director general of the National Gallery of Art (NGA) organisers of the competition, Mr. Abdullahi Muku who commended the artists, explained that the competition was essentially chosen to allow a major segment of Nigerians express themselves through art. “This edition which is as interesting as the first is all about using visual language to communicate the Rebranding of Nigeria as well as a challenge to the creativity of contesting artists. He called on the visual arts community and stakeholders to partner and collaborate in subsequent editions.

According to secondary school category winner, Oladosun Ibrahim Wale, “This is a dream come true. I participated last year but my work didn’t even get a consolation prize. But the opportunity to participate and win this time has further encouraged me to continue as an artist.”
