Visual arts: SNA landscaping FCT

Following a successful outing at this year’s edition of the ArtExpo New York, the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) has launched the pilot edition of ‘Abuja Landscape and Cityscape’ outdoor painting programme.
According to a release by Mr. Tochukwu Okide, FCT president of the SNA, the visual arts train, which took off from Bwari, will eventually visit the other areas of the city.
Okide also said the SNA FCT will be holding an exhibition, entitled, ‘Change: New Visions of Nigeria.’
Speaking on the need for the event, he said: “At this point in our nation’s history, it is clear Nigerians will have to reinvent themselves and search out domestic solutions to the myriad of issues that confront her.
“To this end, the SNA FCT, after discussing issues in our nation and its attendant artistic trajectory decided to organize a group show,” he said.
The five day exposition will feature master artists like Prof. Jacob Jari,  Prof. Jerry Buhari, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, Dr. Emma Irokanulo, Oliver Enwonwu along with Abuja-based artists with new works not yet seen in the public space.
At the exhibition co-sponsored by Giftmart Shops and Gallery Artists and Exquisite OAK Hotel, artists are expected to plough their way through different media and produce works which are contemporaneous and original.
