Wuse’s fire station, its shopping complex and divisional police station were also put under hours of sanitation in the All Africa Helping Hand Service, an annual project of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
It is the seventh year, the project has partnered with establishment owners to “clean, sweep, wash and beautify” their surroundings, according to Oku-Ukpong Edima, the state president of the Abuja sector of the church, who led the team that was at Wuse District.
He said it was simply “rendering helping hand to humanity and to impact on the community wherever the church operates in Africa.”
“It is an observance of the injunction in the scriptures that we should be of service to our neighbours,” Edima added.
Ijeoma Azubuike, zonal commander of Wuse fire station cleaned during the exercise, urged organizations to emulate the cleanup exercise to “sanitise the nation”.
“Every time we say ‘Jonathan, Jonathan’, what of we at the lower level? Let us do our own part so that we can be able to talk to somebody who is at higher level.”
Two markets in Dutsen Alhaji and Lugbe, as well as a primary school in Mpape, were also cleaned in the outreach.
