Voter registration: A/Ibom govt decries low turn out

The Akwa Ibom State Government has described the ongoing voter registration exercise in the state as unimpressive, and urged traditional rulers to champion and mobilise citizens for the exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, made the appeal in Uyo, the state capital.

He said traditional rulers were key influencers in their domain, stressing that their role is critical in strengthening the state’s democratic foundation.

The government tasked the traditional rulers’ to ensure that the electorate within their domain were fully registered, noting that it was essential for fair political representation and development planning. 

“I appreciate the royal fathers for their work, and I know the governor does not take their contributions for granted,” he said.
