WACSOF is a regional organisation established by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to complement its work to facilitate constructive partnership with state authorities, political parties, and other stakeholders in various fields.
Briefing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, General Secretary of the Forum Abdoulaye Diallo said the organisation is collaborating with Oxfam Novib on the project which is titled “Ensuring Rights-Based, Pro-Poor Governance in West Africa through Sustained Ratification and Domestication of International Legal and Policy Frameworks.”
He said the overall goal of the project is to enhance CSOs advocacy towards the ratification of global, continental and regional policy and legal frameworks, conventions and protocols applicable to West African countries, so as to guarantee the benefits of rights-based pro-poor governance for West African citizens.
He said the project seeks to engage with existing international policies, conventions and legal frameworks with the view to getting the relevant state authorities to expedite action on the ratification and domestication of these norms which will in turn lead to good governance, the protection of human rights and affirmative action that guarantee participation for women in decision making positions in the sub-region.
Programme officer of WACSOF Lawal Ahmado said the organisation will also engage in massive campaign in enlightening the public on the conventions and policies available for good governance in the sub region.
