The station is completed and has been idle for almost a decade now. It appears no attempt was even made to make it functional and operational despite the current socio-political events in the country.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo finished his first and second tenures in government and nothing concrete was made to make the television station operational.
Now, President Umaru Musa Yar’adua has approached the end of his first tenure and making moves for a second attempt, yet Gumel, NTA is at standstill.
It is pertinent to note that this part of the country remains in absolute neglect as far as government.
The art of informing, educating and entertaining is not being felt by the majority of people residing in these areas.
NTA has a duty to ensure these activities. Seeing, they say, is believing. No matter what any other news media would say or portray to listeners cannot be similar and equal to what can be seen in a televised model.
It is not surprising if President Umaru Musa Yar’adua would, one day, walk into some areas in Nigeria without the people knowing who he is.
If rebranding is a serious issue we had to start from where it is necessary.
Most of the viewing public have turned to foreign satellite televisions, scouting most entertaining and educative programme with sporting activities.
Since the NTA authorities have indicated the desire to station one at Gumel since nine years ago, why then the delay to commence and commission the station?
The rumou should not be allowed to continue that many attempts were made in those years to shift the station from its present location to somewhere else within the state.
NTA must wake up in order to face the revolutionized global telecast challenges facing it so that it could move the people and the country in general forward.
