Since the 2007 political dispensation to date, hardly can one discuss the Politics of Sokoto State and its environs without mentioning two strong political godfathers—former governor, Attahiru Bafarawa and Aliyu Wammakko.

The two gladiators have been persistent, hitting the pages of newspapers, making  headlines on the battle of wits to control the soul of Sokoto State politically. The climax of it all was the way and manner Wammakko bulldozed his way and won the governorship polls twice, to the admiration of teeming party loyalists and supporters.

Nevertheless, many public affairs analysts and commentators suggested or opined that the supremacy battle between the two gladiators was far from over. However,  some are of the opinion that, if Bafarawa persists in his  fight with his successor, Wammakko,  he might end up retiring himself from politics abruptly.

There is no gainsaying that even a blind man knows that Wammakko is not only a pillar as far as the politics of Sokoto State is concerned, he is equally a crowd puller.

Therefore, it will be fool hardy for any politician to attempt to dislodge him. The recent ward congresses of the ruling All Progressives Congress is a clear signal that Wammakko is firmly in control in the state.

Considering what happened in the last gubernatorial election in the state, Wammakko has all it takes to dislodge the ruling People’s Democratic Party in Sokoto from power.

However, what happens in the next dispensation is a million dollars question that can only be answered by time. But for now, the waiting game continues.
