The Oduduwa Youths have advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to without further ado, warn Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to stop stoking political crisis in Rivers State.
The Youraba ethnic youths reminded President Tinubu that it was electoral political crisis that led to the collapse of the former Late President Shehu Shagari’s government, hence he must call Wike to order in order not to drift the country into that negative development again.
The Oduduwa Youths gave the admonition in statement issued by Comrade Ayo Bola on the state of affairs in Rivers State since the former governor handed over to his successor, Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
They noted that though Wike has since handed over to a democratically elected Governor, Fubara, he still wants to maintain firm grip on government apparatus in the state and any slightest disagreement with his antics the FCT Minister ignites fire of political crisis.
They said the former governor’s desire had been done by his successor as evident in appointment of four commissioners – Works, Education, Attorney-General/Justice, and Finance, who worked under him when he held sway who were reappointed and assigned the same portfolios by his successor plus numerous others .
According to the statement Wike in his overbearing influence instigated impeachment of Governor and defection of his loyalists, numbering 27 in the Rivers State House of Assembly who have been operating illegally, fomenting trouble for the state.
“The crisis orchestrated by Wike in the state beginning with the impeachment of the governor by the 27 lawmakers under the leadership of Wike’s kinsman from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Martin Amaewhule who was the Speaker first led to an explosion that rocked the Rivers State House of Assembly and destroyed the hallowed chamber. That was a great desecration on the basion of democracy, the legislature which the G27 people should be investigated for.
“While Governor Fubara implemented the peace accord engineered by President Tinubu, Wike and his cohorts in brazen show of disregard for the truce continue with their nefarious activities.
“For instance, his 27 loyal Assembly Members who incidentally lost their seats after the unjustifiable defection continue to seat, impersonate and forge laws and veto the Governors assent to extend the tenure of local government chairmen and pass the Rivers State Public Procurement (Amendment) Bill 2024.
“Just last week, the All Progressives Congress APC, in the state had asked the state lawmakers – the 27 who defected to their folds by Wike Order to begin the process of impeaching Governor Fubara.
“As if that was not enough, Wike left his job of administering FCT on behalf of the President in the face of the challenges the nation’s capital has being grappling with since he took over and went to Rivers to add fuel to the existing fire burning the state.
“He (Wike) in giving teeth to his foot soldiers said, ‘I want to say this clearly: in life, we make mistakes. I have made a mistake. I own it up and I say God forgive me. I have said all of you forgive me. But we will correct it at the appropriate time.
“I am human. I am bound to make mistakes. So forgive me for making a wrong judgment. Don’t be afraid. Nobody will remove you as lawmakers.
“Most of you don’t understand. This is our work. Our business is to make them to fear. That is what I am doing. We will make them to be angry every day and they will continue to make mistakes.”
The group expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his fatherly decision to not to take sides between Wike and Fubara in the ongoing political crisis rocking Rivers State but said he can call his appointee, the former governor to order because all accusing fingers are pointing at him.
“We commend the President for what Presidency said that he will not take sides between Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara over the ongoing political crisis rocking Rivers State.
“The President Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale at an interview on TVC said: ‘He (Tinubu) will ensure that any attempt to frustrate the operation of the Rivers State government in conducting its affairs in a way that it would benefit the Rivers people, that’s obviously is not going to be allowed by this President or anybody else.
“Good enough but he should warn his Minister Wike before it will be too late and what he doesn’t want to happen which is already happening will escalate.”
