Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has appealed for calm and peaceful resolution of the renewed crisis between the Urhobo and Itsekiri communities in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a statement on Tuesday, Dafinone said he received reports of the renewed hostilities “with deep concern,” urging restraint on all sides. “At this critical time, I appeal to all parties to exercise restraint and shun any acts of violence,” he said. He also called on the Federal Government and security agencies to “act swiftly in de-escalating the situation and ensuring the safety of all communities.”

The senator highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two groups. “The Urhobos and our Itsekiri neighbours have coexisted as brothers for decades, sharing cultural, social, and economic ties that must not be destroyed by avoidable conflicts. I appeal to both sides to embrace dialogue and peace, as peace remains priceless and irreplaceable,” he noted.

He expressed concern over reported incidents at the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) House in Okere-Urhobo, which left some youths injured. Dafinone urged authorities to investigate and ensure justice is served. “Such acts are deeply regrettable, as the UPU represents the heritage and identity of the Urhobo people worldwide. I urge the authorities to investigate these incidents thoroughly and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” he said.
