The Special Assistant to Governor Umaru Al-makura on Urban Development, Ogbole Hassan, told Daily Trust that the compactors were deployed to Karu LGA where the state records the highest collection of waste daily.
He said that Karu was chosen as the first phase for the deployment of the compactors due to the determination of the governor to keep the area clean and accommodating for the residents.
“The compactors will introduce the modern and efficient way of waste management in the state, it will also discourage indiscriminate dumping which split to the streets, and also reduce health hazard associated with the refuse,” he said.
He said that the compactors will contain about 20 tonnes of refuse, adding that the government has started discussion with the private sector to commence effective waste management in the state.
