One of the students, Ibrahim Bala Babangida, who resides in Ungwan Lambu lamented that students living there face difficulties because of water shortage in the area.
“Students living in Ungwan Lambu are in a critical condition as a result of water scarcity, and there is no way we can relay our complaints through demonstration because we are afraid of being killed the way our colleagues were killed in February last year during a peaceful demonstration. I am therefore appealing to the school authorities to come to our rescue because water is life,” he said.
Another student, Musa Hussaini said: “This is a problem that needs urgent attention from the management of the school because it is affecting the students. But I am calling on the students to be patient.”
Checks at the Mada water board office, revealed that the water scarcity emanated from the disconnection of power supply by the power distribution company. A staff of the water board, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the press, said: “The Power Holding Company is charging the water board a bill of N2 million monthly, the money which the manager of the board said he cannot afford to pay, consequently the line supplying electricity to the board was disconnected.”
