He said portable water is expensive and has cost because it requires a lot to produce and so it is not free.
Speaking at a two-day training workshop of media on water resources reporting in Kaduna, Dr. Bamigboye noted that lots of people look at water as a cheap commodity and as a result fail to appreciate the amount of water available for their use.
He said the integration of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) into the operations of the river basin authority will help to achieve sustainable developmental growth at the water sector.
He also said the reestablishment of water quality and ecosystem, human and industrial waste management, flood lost reduction, segmentation and pollution control will also play a pivotal role in addressing the problem of water in the country.
Speaking on the need for the training by IWRM, he noted that reporting of water requires knowledge and that is what the institute is giving to the media to help them report the issues well.
He said the media have a role to play in educating the public and that the people need to be educated on issues of integrated water and how to locate water resources in an equitable way as well as know the benefits of water and how to make it sustainable for generations.
Bamgboye requested that a right base approach to sustaining water resources should be adopted.
The right base approach, according to him, is to prioritise access to clean water and promote an inclusive participation in decision making while holding the stakeholders accountable to the people.
