A suspected child thief, yesterday, revealed that they sold two of the boys they were alleged to have stolen for N300,000 each.

The suspect, Joy Okorie, who is one of the three suspected members of a child theft syndicate, was paraded, yesterday, along with her alleged accomplice. Other suspected members of the syndicate are: Kate Njoku and Onyeka Joseph.

“We sold two boys for N300,000 each. I was caught in my first attempt of engaging in the crime and I regret my action,” Okorie, a 30-year-old woman from Imo State, said.

Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who paraded the suspects, said three kids were recovered from the suspects, adding that the kids have already been enrolled in an elementary school in Anambra State before they were recovered.

Oyeyemi said the suspects’ mode of operation “is to go into different neighbourhoods where they targeted children and rent an apartment” in an attempt to carry out their heinous act.”

He disclosed that the arrest of one Mary Paul, a principal suspect, who is undergoing trial in Ondo State, led to the arrest of the three suspects.

“The suspects make friends with unsuspecting parents of the targeted children, gain their trust and sometimes become a child care giver in the absence of the unsuspecting parents,” Oyeyemi said.
