Commercial motorcyclists in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, have lamented over poor patronage since the commencement of the new naira policy which has led to sharp cash crunch nationwide.

A motorcyclist, John Samson, said since the introduction of the new naira notes he had been struggling to get passengers, noting that the proceeds from the business were no longer enough to take care of his family and maintain the motorcycle.

He, therefore, urged the federal government to make the new naira notes available to the public in order to shore up collapsing businesses.

David Amudu, another commercial motorcyclist, said that the scarcity of the naira notes had dealt a heavy blow on motorcycle business.

He said, “I got my motorcycle for N540,000 on hire purchase and was remitting N45,000 monthly, but due to the poor circulation of the redesigned naira notes, I do not make up to N2,000 now in a day.

“Before the introduction of the new notes, I was making N6,000 to N7,000 a day, fed my family well and even made monthly savings.

Mr Peter Ability, a motorcyclist at Aso-Mararaba, said, “The new naira crisis has degenerated to the extent that there is nothing one can do than to pray to God Almighty for a better Nigeria.”

He appealed to the government to do something about the currency crunch so that the masses could get relief. (NAN)
