The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen has reiterated that Nigerian courts will soon phase out manual form of communication.

Justice Onnoghen made this known on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of a workshop for Information and Communication Technology Staff of the various courts in the country at the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja.

Justice Onnoghen, who was represented by a justice of the Supreme Court, Justice John InyangOkoro, begged judges and lawyers to join the new trend by subscribing to, and acquiring the legal email for communication, which commences from July 16.

“In our effort to ensure that the Nigerian Judiciary becomes ICT compliant, we have also developed and deployed the Nigerian Case Management System (NCMS) with innovations of filing and service of court processes electronically as well as the electronic archiving of probate records,” he said.

He charged the participants to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Court Employees and shun vices such as lateness to work, leaking rulings and judgments as well as absenteeism from work without permission from superior authority.

Also, in her welcome address, the Administrator of the NJI, Justice Rosaline Bozimo said the revolutionary effect of ICT in every field of human endeavor cannot be overemphasised.
