We defeated Germany when it mattered most – Olowokeere, Alvine

Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s football coach, Bankole Olowookere, has said the third-place win over Germany at the just concluded FIFA U-17 Women’s championship in India came at the right moment for the country.

He made this known Tuesday when the team was received by the sports minister, Sunday Dare and top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation at the MKO Abiola national stadium, Abuja.

Olowokeere said he felt fulfilled having won a medal for the country and he said he was praying for more success.

“I feel fulfilled. It’s a mission accomplished for me. This is what I set out in my career. The German defeated us at the group stage but we defeated them when it mattered most.

“We had a game plan but the Germans came back. However I was sure of victory. But for now, I have to enjoy this win and strategise for my career.

“My prayer point in India was for victory which is what we are witnessing now. I am a coach with plan and vision who wants results,” he said.

In the same vein, the captain, Dah Zossu Alvine said it was tough after losing the first game but they were able to pick themselves up to get the bronze medal.

“It wasn’t easy when we lost our first match but we were able to pick ourselves up, get ourselves together. Kudos to our coaches who gave us the confidence and helped us to come back strong,” she said.
