Speaking at a one-day enlightenment programme for staffers of the university on the core values of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Braide said the management of the university was aware that some institutions in the country were only producing half-baked graduates.
Braide said: “In this institution, we don’t do handouts. We don’t sell them here. We have minimal cases of indiscipline which we handle as they happen.
“We are committed to implementing the core values that build integrity. We do not dish out products that cannot impact on the society. We want to produce graduates that can stand out anywhere.”
She said integrity, a core values of the university, was carefully thought out in line with the need to build an accountable, transparent and ethical system that conforms to the mandate of the ICPC.
She said: “Education must lead to improvement of socio-economic development of the populace in material terms (certificates, bridges, roads buildings etc) and non-material terms (integrity, skills etc). Corruption is the intervening variable that prevents the translation of growth into development. It undermines the relevance of tertiary institutions to national development.”
The sensitisation programme was conducted by a team of experts from the ICPC, led by Prince Hassan Mohammed, a zonal Chief Superintendent of Investigation, who spoke on the topic: “Forgery of Important Academic Documents: A Cursory Look.”
He admonished workers to keep to the humble but straight path in their career to avoid falling into the temptation to commit forgery.
