Plateau State, for a long time searched for peace due to the many crises that bedevilled the state. The situation was so bad that the state became polarised. There was suspicion among the various ethnic groups as each one was afraid of the other. After several years of dialogue and military operations, relative peace was restored in the state. 

Last week’s attacks and the subsequent killings that have followed them are unnecessary. The people of Plateau should think of what the state used to be in the past during the crises period. It was not a palatable experience. 

That is why I urge all those behind the current crisis to have a rethink. The cost of peace is huge and once peace is tampered with, it is not easy to regain. Government, traditional and religious leaders should call an urgent meeting and wade into the matter and bring the crisis under control. 

If care is not taken, the development that was recorded in the past few years will be destroyed. All hands must be on deck to address this matter.  This is not the Plateau of old and we must not allow this crisis to degenerate.
