The Arewa Youth Assembly says it has no ties with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The group stated this to counter claims by some groups that the assembly is working for the minister after it repeatedly kicked against the fuss generated over the closure of the International Conference Centre (ICC), for repairs by Wike.

In a statement on Sunday, Speaker, Arewa Youth Assembly, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, said: “We have no ties with Wike; in fact, we do not know him, have never met him, but became interested in the issue because it seems there is a gang-up against him for being the Minister of FCT and not coming from the North, leading to labeling him with various anti-North criticisms.

“This is unfortunate, archaic, and barbaric. Abuja belongs to Nigeria; being the FCT Minister is not exclusive to the North but is defined by merit, performance, and exceptional leadership qualities.

“It is a shame for them to be unaware of the Arewa Youth Assembly, an association with several years of existence, numerous activities, and a history of fighting for the youths of the region and the country within the bounds of the law.

“This displays their attitude and negligence toward the youths of their own region.”
