The Benue State Government has said that armed invasions of rural communities have declined in recent times in the state.

 Dr Edward Amali, the Director of Livestock in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, told our correspondent that Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration had stepped up a positive response to ensure the attackers stayed away from causing trouble.

 He also attributed the reduction of the invasions of the local communities to the off season activities of herders, while stressing that the open grazing law of the state remained effective and was undergoing a positive review.

 He said, “The anti-open grazing law is still in force in the state. The state government is looking at contending issues about the law. Governor Hyacinth Alia is trying to be positively sensitive.

 “The Livestock Guards are still effective too, but they have not been in the field for a while.”
