Chairman of the FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Stephen A. Knabayi, says the union has ensured that all qualified teachers have been registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Knabayi stated this at the opening ceremony of the 11th (7th Quadrennial) local branches delegates’ conference across the 13 union branches in Gwagwalada yesterday.
He said the union under his leadership has been able to also ensure the registration of 12,000 teachers with a cooperative society, which he said has improved teachers’ welfare in the FCT.
According to him, with the loyalty and commitment of the state executives, teachers have been able to enjoy uninterrupted payment of salaries in the FCT.
He said the delegates’ conference would provide an important forum for all teachers at every branch of the union to meet, assess and analyse the challenges and achievements and also chart a way forward for the union.
Knabayi reiterated the union’s readiness and commitment in working towards issues driving programmes that would boost the welfare and lives of FCT teachers.
Aso Chronicle gathered that the state union was conducting elections into the 13 local branches for new executives of the union, including four newly created ones – Kwaita in Kwali Area Council, Jiwa in AMAC, Kubwa and Zuba in Gwagwalada Area Council.
