As the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) kicks off its 2021 World day against human trafficking, its Director General, Senator Basheer Garba Mohammed has disclosed that over 550 traffickers had been jailed.
The DG who was represented by Director, Legal and Prosecution department, Mr. Hassan Tahir, at a news briefing Tuesday in Abuja also said 17,000 victims of trafficking have been rescued and that a good number have been trained and empowered.

He also said that two new projects to be implemented by the UNODC were to be unveiled in the course of celebrating the 2021 World Day Against Human Trafficking.
He said the projects aim to support NAPTIP and NIS in addressing TIP/SOM and also to contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s response to trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.
The DG also noted that although the agency was yet to achieve all of its set goals and objectives, it had made remarkable progress.
