The Abaji Area Council head of Department for Environment, Alhaji Umar Yusuf Simbabi, has disclosed that the department was making arrangements to provide waste bins at designated areas to tackle indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the metropolis of the council.

Speaking with our reporter yesterday, Simbabi said the council chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, has already directed the department to carry out survey of residential houses within the metropolis to ascertain the number of houses that will be provided with the waste bins.

He said the department has now been embarking on daily cleaning of streets and water drainages as well as evacuation of refuse at designated areas, adding that such measures had enhanced a clean and hygienic environment.

He said the department has engaged 30 labourers to clean all the major streets within the metropolis.

The head of department, while commenting on the completion of the gully erosion control project at Wadata community, said the department would meet with leaders of the community on the need to provide them a place where  refuse would be dumped.
