One of the suspects arrested over the killing of a security man at Lekki area of Lagos has said they killed the deceased because he was stronger than them.

Daniel John and Collins Archibong both 25years-old from Cross River state were arrested by the police for allegedly killing the deceased during a robbery operation at MP Manufacturers in Lekki area of Lagos in November, 2017.

John in his confession said, “We did not intend to kill anyone. We went there just to steal. But by the time we got there we met the guard sleeping. But he woke up and engaged us and at the same time held Archibong and I. He was very strong. We stabbed him because he almost overpowered us.

“We went away with his phone and sold it for N9000. I got N3000, Collins got N2000 while the third person, Bassey got N4,000.

“We had forgotten about the operation and were going about our normal work as security men at Lekki Residential Security, when we were arrested.”

Police sources said the suspects, having scaled the fence made straight for the guard’s stand, from where they demanded for laptops that were newly delivered to the company.

It was gathered that one of the guards identified as Abubakar Isiaka, who attempted to prevent the robbers from having their way was stabbed in the ribs and waist, and subsequently died in the hospital.

The suspects, according to Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Imohimi Edgal, would be charged to court.
