The state of Nigerian prisons is unfair. How can someone accused of petty crime or unable to pay a small amount of money as bail be allowed to rot for months and years? Is this fair? If we want to have a decent society, we must make our prisons a better place to live in, so we have better people coming out of them and not the other way round. In Nigeria, if you are poor, your trial takes eternity and you may just be forgotten in there. We must work hard to change this. Recently, I read on the internet about a prison somewhere in Europe where inmates live comfortably. And results have shown that very few of them go back to their old ways. In fact, the rate of crime in that country is low.
