Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi, has tasked the ruling All Progressives Congress APC to mobilise for the urgent and necessary task of rebuilding the hope of Nigerians by decisively leading the charge against underdevelopment, disunity, and insecurity.
While acknowledging the success the party had achieved since taking over power from the People Democratic Party in 2015, the presidential hopeful in a statement titled, ‘My Pact with the All Progressives Congress’, said there are also some challenges confronting the country.
He said the challenges including insecurity, adverse domestic pressures and external shocks on the economy, have affected the plans of the party to tackle unemployment.
“Without being defensive or unduly apologetic, we must dig deep to find that combination of humility, a sense of public service, an uncommon courage, and a tenacity of purpose to drive a shared national vision. These qualities served us very well when we won the 2015 elections and, in so doing, wrote an important new chapter in our national electoral history. They can and will serve us well again if we re-commit to them,” he said.
Fayemi said he would build on the successes recorded by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration if elected president in 2023.
“To renew our position as a credible political force worthy of continuing to enjoy the respect and support of Nigerians, I’ll spare no effort to ensure that we win the fight that must be fought with tenacity against insecurity, banditry, unemployment, poverty, inequality, threats of national disintegration, and lawlessness.”
