 At various points, previous administrations took steps towards making consumer goods available at affordable rates. 

In the defunct Kaduna State, there was an agency known as the Kaduna State Distribution Agency, and its function was to ensure that essential commodities were made available through various distribution networks and supply channels.

The agency also supplied goods to ministries and parasatatals from where workers purchased at affordable cost.

The practice helped in alleviating the suffering of the masses. 

Also at the federal level, we used to have the National Supply Company in all states of the federation and it helped to ensure availability of essential commodities.

It is important for government to resuscitate such agency and to also set up more consumer goods shops as many Nigerians are souffering due to the high cost of commodities in the open market.
