‘We’re friends to our lecturers in Uganda varsity’

I am writing this piece to share my little experience concerning my studies in Nigeria and abroad. As far as I am concerned, the procedure for acquiring knowledge in Nigeria and Uganda is almost the same because in both countries it requires dedication on the part of student to excel.
With respect to Nigerian universities and colleges, the institutions’ efforts to provide knowledge and ensure qualitative education to students need to be overemphasised.
Cavendish University, Uganda, is an environment where I learnt lots of lessons of life; from how to cook the food of my choice; how to smile even if I’m in pain; understand the value of my true friends and family; and I also understand what to do when I missed someone special.
I have experienced living in a new environment with new people of different backgrounds; different religion, tribe, culture, tradition, language, habits, behaviour, skin colour, mental disposition and thoughts among others.
I developed the habit of interacting with my lecturers; and all of them are friends to their respective students unlike most of the lecturers in some universities in Nigeria. I can work directly to the office of the Dean of Faculty or Dean of Student Affairs anytime during office hours and they will either attend to me or give me an appointment depending on the issue that took me there and this can be done by every other student.
Another experience that clears my doubt is the issue of registration; like central, departmental and finance. The process is entirely different from that in our universities back home because it is accomplished using a centralized database. This is like the central registration but it comprises everything and there is nothing like the issue of level coordinator.
Indeed we do have a thing or two we could borrow from Cavendish to improve our university environment here in Nigeria.
