The Gombe State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it received 2,988 Bimodal Voter Authentication System (BVAS) devices for the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, disclosed this yesterday during a press conference on INEC’s preparations for the elections.
He said the BVAS devices received were the exact requirement for the state, adding that with the devices, issues of infiltration and other forms of electoral malpractice would drastically reduce.
Ibrahim added that security personnel were drafted to beef up security in the state INEC office, “because the BVAS devices are part of the sensitive electoral materials.

The REC also called on members of the public who were newly registered, and those that requested for replacement of their lost or damaged PVCs to go to INEC offices and collect them.
He described the burning of INEC facilities in some parts of the country as a deliberate step aimed at creating fear in the hearts of Nigerians and preventing the commission from carrying out its constitutional mandate.
“In the face of these challenges, we remain resolute and committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible, all-inclusive and accountable elections that all Nigerians will be proud of in 2023.
“Even though we have not witnessed any case of destruction of our offices/assets in Gombe State, we have sadly noticed some cases of clashes between supporters of opposing parties and destruction of billboards/posters,” Ibrahim said.
