National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the party in the last registration exercise recorded over 13 million members.

He said the party is pushing towards having 14 million members before the conclusion of the exercise to position itself as a dominant political force across the country.

“We have over 13 million, we’re aiming to close to 14 million registered members of the party,” he said.

The APC national chairman, who spoke at a media parley in Abuja on Wednesday, said the ruling party will consolidate its advantages ahead of elections.

While acknowledging tensions arising from the influx of defectors and longstanding members, the national chairman said both groups must be accommodated.

“We are man-managers. The defectors and the legacy members must be included in the leadership of the party,” he said.

He added that broader inclusion across groups was key to party stability.

On internal processes, Yilwatda said the party was strengthening transparency through technology-driven membership systems.

He also disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had reviewed the party’s records.

“INEC was in our office today, they verified what we were doing, they went through our books, went through our accounts,” he said. “We’re waiting for them to give us their statement.”

On internal disputes, he said the party had adopted conflict resolution mechanisms to reduce crises.

“When we had a crisis, we withdrew and set up internal conflict resolution mechanisms,” he said. “That has helped to resolve all our internal issues to near zero.”

He said consensus remained central to resolving contests within the party.
