The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government and security agencies to safeguarding Nigeria’s unity, peace and stability, stressing that sustainable peace cannot be achieved by government alone.
Speaking at the ongoing 2026 Southern Kaduna Festival in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the Defence Minister said all citizens have a role to play in promoting peace, national unity and development.
General Musa emphasised the importance of integrity, patriotism and collective responsibility in nation-building, assuring Nigerians that the government would continue to work tirelessly to ensure the country remains secure and prosperous.
“We remain committed to protecting our country. Sustainable peace cannot be achieved by government alone. It requires the cooperation and commitment of every citizen,” he said.
The Minister commended the organisers of the festival, describing the event as a platform that promotes cultural identity, unity and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.
According to him, the festival represents something deeper than entertainment and celebration, noting that while development remains important, communities must not lose touch with their cultural heritage and values.
“The future cannot be built on conflict but on shared commitment, mutual understanding and unity,” he stated.
Addressing young people at the event, General Musa described the youth as the future of the nation and urged them to invest in education, skills acquisition and productive ventures while shunning activities capable of undermining their future and that of the country.
He added that creating opportunities for young people is a collective responsibility that requires the participation of government, private organisations and community leaders.
The Southern Kaduna Festival, which attracts participants from within and outside Kaduna State, is aimed at celebrating the rich cultural heritage, diversity and peaceful coexistence of the people of Southern Kaduna.
Daily Trust had reported how the Defence Minister stirred nationwide debate after awarding the administration of President Bola Tinubu a 65 to 70 per cent performance score on security, despite persistent attacks, kidnappings and banditry across parts of the country.
Musa gave the assessment during an interview on ARISE News on Friday while reflecting on the administration’s three years in office.
The minister argued that Nigeria had recorded significant gains against terrorism and insurgency.
He insisted that the overall security situation had improved compared to previous years.
“I’ll give ourselves 65 to 70 per cent. No nation is totally free from crime and criminality. The level of terrorism across the country has actually drastically reduced”, Musa said during the interview.
