We remember Justice Mohammed Bello, GCON

But to us, he was a beloved guardian and mentor, and we miss him today and every day of our lives. We submit to Allah’s will, and we thank Allah Almighty for the gift of his life. His tenure as our country’s chief jurist was concurrent with some of the most difficult periods in Nigerian history.
It was a period of military rule, and dire challenges to liberty and the independence of the courts. Justice Bello navigated these waters with unparalleled simplicity, devotion, humility and courage that kept the judiciary together. Learned in Latin, he studied at the University of Ibadan before qualifying as a lawyer in London.
He grew from being a pupil crown counsel to the very apex of the judiciary. Upon his retirement, he returned to us in Katsina an accomplished man. We remember him with fondness, and we pray Allah to forgive him his sins and grant him peaceful repose.
