Suspected killers of a DELSU student, during their parade by the police in Delta State yesterday.
The police in Delta State, yesterday, paraded four suspects in connection with the killing of a 300 level student of Delta State University, Abraka, Elozino Joshualia Ogege.
The spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, said the 4-man ‘Yahoo Plus’ ritual gang were also responsible for several other ritual killings in the state.
Yahoo Plus are fraudsters said to use fetish means in defrauding their victims.
One of the suspects, a security guard in the university campus, identified only as Onos, who had offered to assist the victim to secure an accommodation, said he was contacted by Desmond (one of the suspects) to provide a female student for Yahoo rituals.
He said after the victim contacted him concerning accommodation, he contacted Desmond who came with others the following day, took the victim in a car and applied something on her face which made her unconscious.
“We took her to a bush where we first plucked out one of her eyes while she was still alive. She was even crying and begging us to forgive her and let her go, but we plucked the other eye, removed her breast and heart before she died,” Onos said.
Onos further explained that he was posted to the school by his supervisor for the purpose of carrying out such activities.
However, the supervisor of the security company attached to the university, Uche Nwaosisi, denied knowledge of the crime, saying that he was among those that chased and caught Onos when the police came after him in the school.
Desmond, on his part, sad Ogege’s murder was the fifth he had undertaken for ritual purposes. He said the first four female victims were abducted at Oghara and killed for rituals, adding that Ogege’s murder was his first at the university community in Abraka.
“Each time we kill, we remove the vital organs like the eyes, the heart and the breast of the victims, normally females, and take to the Baba (herbalist), who usually would ask us to come back.
“Baba used to burn the heart and pound it to make powder substance out of it. It is the powder that he give us, which we apply before speaking to our victims to make money from them. Any big woman we approach obliges us and provides money for us,” Desmond added.
The herbalist, identified only as Robinson, said the victim’s heart and eyes were the first he received from his ‘Yahoo Plus customers’, who he said he met seven years ago.
He said when they came with Ogege’s body parts, they gave him N140,000 and asked him to make them rich. He however refused to state what he did with the body parts.
Meanwhile, one of the Yahoo Plus members was said to have slumped and died when the police were close to apprehending him.
The command’s spokesman noted that the inordinate rave for illicit wealth among the youth is an issue of value orientation and called on families, churches and other faith based organisations to rise up against the menace of ritual killings plaguing the Nigerian society.
