We support farmers with inputs – ALGON

Loman stated this during an interview with our correspondent in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
“We have made several efforts to support agriculture in Plateau State.
We purchase fertiliser and gave them to farmers at a subsidised rate. We bought other farming inputs, including insecticide, to support the farmers. All these are aimed at encouraging farmers, especially youths, to become self sufficient in the state. You will agree with me that when the outbreak of the potatoes disease (Light blight) occurred we bought insecticide and gave it free to farmers to halt the spread of the disease and cushion the effect of the scourge.”
He said the association has organised workshop on agriculture in all the LGAs to sensitise farmers on improved seeds, high yield in their farms and other initiatives to develop agriculture in the state.
On agro processing industries, the ALGON chairman said: “It was not an easy task to set up processing industries because they require huge amount of money which is beyond ALGON. But the point here is that the state has provided the conducive platform through the establishment of Agricultural Service and Training Centres (ASTC). You will believe with me that this project has repositioned agriculture in the three senatorial zones in the state.”
He said ALGON was encouraging farmers to patronise the initiative, adding that the association has been sponsoring farmers for training in the ASTC and other agricultural development workshops and training in the state.
