The claims came in publications in the wake of an oversight visit by the Senate committee on upstream petroleum resources.
“This is far from the truth, as we have managed to keep students in school. Our students should not be distracted by the publication,” PTDF executive secretary Oluwole Olaleye told a press briefing on Monday in Abuja.
PTDF finances scholarship for some 500 Nigerian students in the UK, 120 in Malaysia and 160 in China.
Oluleye also said precarious financial situation which had prevented the Fund from meeting its pressing financial obligation had improved as a result of the positive intervention of the Minister of Petroleum Resources who is working to ensure the release of accumulated monies due it.
He said PTDF has re-directed all available funds towards the maintenance of its scholars abroad, and intends to scale down on scholarships but not to discontinue them.
The Fund has already advertised scholarship scheme for the next academic session in hopes of imminent finance after intervention from the petroleum resources minister [Diezani Allison-Madueke], said Oluleye.
He added: “We expect that within a very short time all outstanding financial issues will be resolved.”
