Some residents of Jos, the Plateau State capital, have vowed to do all they could to ensure lasting peace in the Tin City and the state in general.

They pledged to guard against the resurgence of violence which erupted in parts of the state recently and led to the loss of hundreds of lives and destruction of properties.

Those who spoke were participants at the  2021 International Peace Day panel discussion organized by the Christian Rural and Urban Development Association of Nigeria (CRUDAN) Jos and  the Social Justice and Human Development for Peace Initiative (JDPC) Jos and Tearfund.

In her remarks, the Women Leader of Jos Bukuru community in Jos South Local Government Area, Zainab Mohammed Inuwa, said without peace, the society would be in dissaray and that even the religious and cultural lifestyles would not be practiced as desired.

She said they would do all they could to advance the message of peacefull coexistence in the community, without which there would be no achievement on individual, group, community or societal basis.

She said the different ethno-religious groups in the state have been living peacefully before crisis broke out, adding  that they would step down all they learnt from the panel discussions to their communities so that the grassroots would also benefit.

On his part, the Youth Leader Ralwol Kak Gyel community, Gyang Dung Chika, said peace is everyone’s business, stressing that everybody, group or government should advance peace.

He called for understanding and forgiveness among the people so as to overcome the pains of the past

Japhet Philip of JDPC Jos and Salome Majam of CRUDAN said the collaboration as well as their initiative to work with the community leaders, religious and traditional rulers was strategic and  would yield good results
