Labour Party on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said the party will ensure Nigeria is restructured through legal means if its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is elected president in 2023.

Dr Yunusa Tanko, chief spokesperson for Labour Party and Obi/Datti Campaign Group who stated this in Ibadan during a press briefing heralding the mega rally of the party in Oyo State, said securing Nigeria, ending banditry and insurgency will be prioritised, if the party wins next year’s elections.

According to him, production-centred growth for food security and export – moving Nigeria from consumption to production and restructuring the polity through effective legal and institutional reforms, to fight corruption and enthrone rule of law and all-inclusive effective government – are among the programmes of the party.

He further said the Obi-Datti administration will provide an enabling environment for business so that more jobs can be created, ensure that workers’ salaries are paid as at when due and their rights are protected.

Tanko noted that leapfrogging Nigeria from an oil-dependent economy to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) with massive investment in new technologies, expanding physical infrastructure – with focus on critical sectors like power, multi-modal transportation, gas pipeline – will be the focus of the party.

He said others are capital development that improves quality of life of workers and families, and productivity-enhancing education that empowers labour competitiveness.
