We won’t follow you to APC, C/River PDP lawmakers tell Ayade

The Senator representing Cross River South in the Senate, Greshom Bassey, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the National Assembly Abuja.

Federal lawmakers from Cross River State elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Friday said they will remain in the party despite the defection of the state governor, Ben Ayade to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Senator representing Cross River South in the Senate, Greshom Bassey, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the National Assembly Abuja.

He said though the defection of Ayade was regrettable, having won all his elections on the platform of PDP, the development would not have any negative implications on the PDP in the state.

The lawmaker assured that most of the National and State House of Assembly members would remain firm in the PDP.

Senator Bassey said: “His defection will not have any negative implications on the PDP in the state because the party remained strong and the dominant party in the state. Most of the National and State House of Assembly members are remaining firm in the PDP. The key stakeholders are still in the party and even some of his appointees have offered to resign rather than go with him. So, the PDP continues to remain strong in the state.

“The bulk of the National Assembly members are not sailing with Ayade. We remain strong and staunch members of the PDP.”
