The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ruled out the chances of one of its governorship aspirants in Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, over his alleged loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

ADC’s Deputy National Chairman (North West), Naja’atu Mohammed, disclosed this at a press conference in Kano, insisting that the party would not hand its ticket to a candidate whose allegiance to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was doubtful.

She said Khalil’s support for President Tinubu was well known, citing his repeated public declarations of loyalty.

“No fair‑minded Northerner would want to politically associate with any aspirant perceived to be loyal to Tinubu, given the hardship, pain and anguish the region has suffered under this administration,” she said.

Naja’atu lamented that hunger and insecurity had spread across the North in the last four years, with women left to watch the killing of their husbands.

She dismissed claims that she was solely responsible for the party’s refusal to adopt Khalil, clarifying that she was only a member of the seven‑member consensus committee chaired by Ben Obi.

The Deputy National Chairman also inaugurated a new Kano State ADC Caretaker Committee to steer the party’s affairs. The committee is led by Umar Bala as Caretaker Chairman, Ismail Musa Ibrahim as Secretary, Lawal Adamu Giginyu as Publicity Secretary, and Barrister Mohammed Lawal Adamu as Legal Adviser.

When contacted, Khalil declined to comment, saying: “I will not reply to her.”

Daily Trust reports that two people, Malam Ibrahim Khalil and Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, have been battling for the party’s ticket ahead of 2027 governorship election.

After a series of failed attempts to reconcile them, the party finally opted to go for consensus, saying that the two of them have already signed agreement promising to abide by whoever the party picks.

The party has not yet announced the consensus candidate it settled down for.
