Community of Birnin Kudu local government in Jigawa state, yesterday, said they will accept in good faith whatever turns out to be the final decision of the Federal Government regarding the choice between Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu and Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital as a teaching hospital for the Federal University Dutse (FUD).

Reacting to our report about the choice of the hospital, the community under the auspice of Muryar Birnin Kudu, in a statement signed by the association’s Publicity Secretary, Malam Kabiru Zubairu, said the choice was now left with the federal government.

“The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie E. Ehanire, had visited the two facilities for assessment and recommendation to the Federal Government for the most suitable facility for the Teaching Hospital. The 200 Level medical students of Federal University Dutse whom, may not be privy to know what it takes to establish a Teaching Hospital, only expressed their preferred choice for citing the Teaching Hospital.

“In Teaching Hospitals, befitting boarding accommodation is provided.

Therefore, the hullabaloo of students commuting between university and Teaching Hospital is a hoax meant to mislead the public and the authorities concern.

“The affordable services enjoyed by the teeming populace of Jigawa state origin from state owned health facilities may not necessarily be within same purview for same set of citizens in same hospital taken over by Federal Government, looking at the poverty level indices amongst our people in the state.

“It’s also noted with concern on the misrepresentation of fact on issue that FMC Birnin Kudu is 60 kilometres away from the University in Dutse. This is not true as it’s actually 43 kilometres away. More so, there is an alternative road that is comparatively shorter that was recently constructed by Jigawa State Government. The road covers only 26km from the university’s main gate to FMC Birnin Kudu.

The community added that the issue regarding the choice of Federal Medical Center (FMC), Birnin Kudu or Rashid Shekoni Specialists Hospital, Dutse as teaching hospital for FUD was a matter that has been put to rest before now.
