The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has reacted to the roll-out of premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petroleum from Dangote refinery, saying the body would deploy all its might and resources to protect the refinery against antics of those it called “economic saboteurs”.

NUPENG stated this in a letter addressed to the Vice-President, Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Company as the 650,000-capacity plant rolls out PMS to the Nigerian market.

General Secretary of NUPENG, Comrade Afolabi Olawale in the letter said the union would resist any attempt to frustrate the refinery from performing optimally to meet the local demands for petroleum products.

He said, “As a union dedicated to the welfare and advancement of workers in the petroleum and natural gas industry, NUPENG is excited about the opportunities this development will bring in terms of employment for Nigerians, socio- economic prosperity and monumental growth of our dear country.

“And we are also not unmindful of the plots and schemes of sworn enemies of the masses and nation’s economic saboteurs to derail the wheel of progress of this wonderful trail blazing train, but as NUPENG, we pledge to make available all our might and resources to defend and protect this beautiful African pride.”

It commended the President of Dangote, Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his “rare courage and determination.”
