Wellington appoints Haslett as Founding Headmaster

Wellington College International Lagos has announced the appointment of Christine Haslett as its Founding Headmaster, effective August 1, 2026.

The appointment marks a major milestone as the school advances preparations for its official opening in September 2027.

According to the institution, Haslett’s appointment provides experienced leadership at a critical stage in the development of the new school.

Haslett is an experienced international education leader with a strong background in both day and boarding schools across the United Kingdom, China and Indonesia.

She previously played a key leadership role in the establishment of Wellington College Independent School Jakarta, where she contributed to building the school’s academic, pastoral and organisational structures.

The school described her leadership style as one that combines strategic direction with a strong commitment to pastoral care, community building and academic excellence.

Commenting on the appointment, Paul Vanni, International Director of Wellington College International, said Haslett possesses the experience and leadership qualities required to guide the school through its formative years.

“Christine brings the experience and judgement required to lead a school through its founding years,” Vanni said.

“Her commitment to education grounded in values and purpose makes her well placed to shape Wellington College International Lagos as it develops its identity and culture.”

Speaking on her appointment, Haslett described the role as a privilege and expressed enthusiasm about building a values-driven institution rooted in the Wellington educational philosophy.

“It is a privilege to take up the role of Founding Headmaster at Wellington College International Lagos,” she said.

“I look forward to working with students, families and colleagues to establish a school that is ambitious, values-led, and deeply rooted in the Wellington ethos.”

She added that her vision is to create a learning environment where students are inspired academically while also developing strong character, confidence and compassion.

“My vision is to create a vibrant learning environment where every child is known, challenged and inspired to realise their potential, whilst developing the character, confidence and compassion to serve and shape the world around them,” she stated.

Haslett also said the school would celebrate Nigeria’s cultural heritage while preparing students to thrive in a global environment.

Located within Alaro City, Wellington College International Lagos is part of the global network of Wellington College schools, which share a common educational philosophy focused on academic excellence, character development and holistic learning.
