Former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, on Thursday said his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was aimed at strengthening the party’s stability and consolidating its dominance in the state.

Suswam stated this on the sidelines during a chat with journalists shortly after an interface with party stakeholders at the APC secretariat in Makurdi.

He noted that his camp would be bringing a lot of value to the APC and that they will be committed to ensuring that Benue remains firmly under the party’s control. 

“We’re bringing a lot of value. We are bringing stability and to make sure Benue lock down for APC,” the former governor said.

He maintained that the move was not driven by personal ambition but by the desire to support both the President and Governor Hyacinth Alia in advancing development.

“Benue has never been in opposition right from the time of NPN. Then we were in PDP, but APC came and overwhelmed us. Here we are now. That’s what Benue people want,” he said.

The former governor urged party executives to uphold their roles as custodians of the party by fostering unity and active participation, stressing that every committed member must be involved in strengthening the party structure.

Suswam also called on Benue people to continue supporting Governor Alia, noting that the administration has made appreciable progress within three years. 

He advised the governor to remain focused on development and not be distracted by opposition, while also hinting on his availability to run for senate.
