The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it is building a resilient economy that would support the dreams of Nigerians.

CBN’s Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, Ms Emem Usoro stated this at the weekend in Ikot Akpadem, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State after her conferment with an honorary Doctorate Degree, Doctor of Business Administration, Honoris Causa at the combined 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Convocation ceremonies of the Akwa Ibom State University.

Usoro explained that the apex bank has developed systems and implemented policies that is positioning the economy to serve all spheres of the society.

She listed the economic salvaging policies to include the alignment of the nation’s monetary policies with its fiscal reforms, saying it has resulted in exchange rate and macro-economic stability, economic growth boost and encouraging inclusive economy for sustainable development.

“At the Central Bank of Nigeria, we are working hard to build a resilient economy that would support your dreams and make you part of a global economy that is full of immense opportunities.

“We have developed systems and implemented policies that brought the country back from economic disaster and are positioning the economy to better serve all segments of society.

“In great synergy with the federal government, we have aligned our monetary policies with its fiscal reforms, which have already achieved exchange rate and macro-economic stability, boosted economic growth and is fostering an inclusive economy for sustainable development,” she stated.

The Deputy Governor announced that CBN would commit support to the institution’s academic and research work, and urged the graduates to remain perpetually curious, hungry for knowledge, ask questions, and not be apathetic to new knowledge.

She emphasied that excellence was a fruit of preparation, sacrifice, and perseverance, and charged the female graduands not to be deterred by societal and cultural constraints in the pursuit of their dreams.

“As an institution, we will be supporting the University with a token for its academic and research work for greater impact in Nigeria,” she said.

Other honorary Doctorate degree awardees were the Emir of Kano, His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, Doctor of Arts (D.A.) Honoris Causa; Engr. Uwem Stephen Okoko, Doctor of Engineering (D. Eng) Honoris Causa; Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Indimi Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Honoris Causa; Barr. (Mrs.) Mina Tamuno Williams-Agbons, Doctor of Law (LL.D) Honoris Causa; Engr. Oliver Ebong, Doctor of Engineering (D. Eng) Honoris Causa; Pastor Inyang Udo Tobby, Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D) Honoris Causa; and Engr. Elvis Effiong Osung, Doctor of Engineering (D. Eng) Honoris Causa.

The University said the degrees were confered on the recipients for their exceptional contributions to society, scholarship, public service and human development.
