Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity, particularly banditry, which has plagued the state and other parts of the North West.

Daily Trust reports that Sokoto, like many North West states, continues to battle recurring banditry and killings.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday after receiving an award of excellence from the Nigeria First Integrity Group in collaboration with All Progressives Stakeholders, Aliyu said the state government is determined to provide adequate security and improve the welfare of citizens.

“Sokoto is not leaving any stone unturned in efforts to nip security challenges in the bud. We will continue to do all it takes to safeguard our people and uplift their living standards,” he said.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Ibraheem Adare, listed security and education as top priorities in his 9-point agenda.

He disclosed that his administration had procured patrol vehicles for security operatives and rolled out other strategies aimed at curbing bandit attacks and protecting lives.

Aliyu also acknowledged the support of stakeholders, particularly former governor and current senator, Aliyu Wamakko, whose contributions he described as “tremendous.”

Presenting the award, Hajiya Maryam Yunusa Danjaki, Director-General of the Nigeria First Integrity Group, said Governor Aliyu was recognized for his administration’s strides in education, which she noted has remained a major challenge in the North.
