The President and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Dr Muhammad Al Jasser, has described the activities and engagements of the bank to not only banking, but charting the course of humanity globally.
Jasser made the remark at the official opening press conference of the IsDB Group’s 2023 Annual Meetings in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday.
He said, “During 2022, our operations focused on three key areas – boosting recovery, tackling poverty and building resilience and driving green economic growth. In addition, IsDB played a vital role in the high-level United Nations Crisis Response Group, formulating quietness and policies and mobilising resources. We are more of humanitarians than just banking.
“IsDB Group operations have predominantly supported the post COVID-19 recovery during 2022 with $10.5bn out of which eight provided $30bn TFC ($68bn), ICD ($0.6bn) and $11.6bn of business insured by ICIEC. The bank is ready to respond to the needs of its member countries as we navigate the crises together, building resilient and green economies.

“Our collaboration with the Arab Coordination Group (ACG) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aims to deliver a comprehensive food security response package worth a minimum of $10bn, with ISDB contributing $10.6bn.
“Furthermore, IsDB and ACG partners announced at the UNFCCC COP27 $24bn for climate finance initiatives.”
The president also extended appreciation to shareholders for their continued confidence in the bank, evidenced by the unequal support for the six General Capital increases, helping the bank to maintain its AAA rating for 20 consecutive years.
He further said, “In 2023 and beyond, we will continue to rely on critics’ creative and diverse thinking while remaining proactive in shaping the direction of non-development by strengthening and leveraging our know-how network and resources.”
