The Lagos State Police Command has announced that it has identified and detained the officers accused of extorting N3.3 million from a couple.

The command said it identified the officers following a viral social media report, titled: “Lagos Police Officers Extort N3.3 Million From Couple, Return N2.2 Million, Claim Remaining N1.1 Million Already Shared.”

According to the report, officers attached to the Area H Command, Ogudu, extorted $2,000 (approximately N3.3m) from a couple they wrongfully apprehended on December 18, 2025.

It was further reported that N2.2m was returned to the victims after the incident gained public attention on X.

However, the officers allegedly appealed to retain the remaining N1.1m, claiming the sum had already been shared among several colleagues. (NAN)

 

Confirming the development on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, stated via her X handle, @AbimbolaShotayo, that the officers involved had been brought to the command headquarters for investigation.

The spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, had directed the Deputy CP (DCP) Administration to oversee the probe.

She assured the public that the command remained committed to professionalism, accountability and transparency, adding that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken if the officers were found culpable.

The spokesperson also encouraged the public to report any misconduct by police personnel through official channels to ensure prompt action. (NAN)
